Will “May holidays” happen again?

The May holidays in the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve were interesting and active. Various events were organized for visitors from April 29 to May 9. The Family Day pleased everybody with the program “Preserving Traditions…”. Museum employees arranged “Easter Games” and told about the Great Orthodox Feasts in the conference hall.

Residents and guests of Kirillov got a chance to join in the tour “Bird’s Eye View of the Monastery” twice during the May holidays. Going to the upper platform of the Bell-tower, many of them could see a collection of bells, an exhibition of shaft-bow bells, a real wooden sleigh and extant details of the clock that used to be on the Clock Tower and made the bells “work”. Guests from St. Petersburg, Vologda, Cherepovets, Archangelsk and Kirillov saw the bird’s eye view of the monastery. They shared their impressions going downstairs, using handrails and taking pictures of every step, “It is a breathtaking experience! We didn’t even think that the bird’s eye view of the monastery would make such an impression on us!”

T.V. Trubnikova, guide of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, told visitors about the monuments of the Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery, current permanent exhibitions of Old Russian art, folk art, archeology, history of the cloister, Old Russian painting, church embroidery, manuscripts and printed books, decorative and applied arts.

“May Vacation” is a traditional program of the museum-reserve within the framework of which master-classes, playing events and interactive tours are organized. Master-classes in making of birch bark toys are especially popular. They are delivered by Zhanna Ryabkova, master of folk artistic crafts of the Vologda region.

Not only the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve was open for visitors during the holidays. Special programs were also prepared in the Museum of Town and District History and in the People’s House. Even local residents enjoyed the walking tour “History of Kirillov”. They could look at their town from a different side.

The program of the holidays came to a logical end on May 9. Open Day took place in the People’s House on Victory Day. Guests saw a presentation of costumes from the museum collection and made a tour of the exhibition “Women’s Costume. Details”.

The next “May Vacation in Museum” will be held in 2018. Until then, come and join “Night at the Museum”. It will be interesting and admission for all events will be free.
