Seminar of teachers of history and social sciences in museum

03 March 2017

The Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve annually organizes seminars for teachers of history and social sciences during autumn holidays and additionally by prior request.

The teachers discussed the following issues at the seminar:

- system and activity and competence-based approaches in school historical education. Implementation of the Federal State Educational Standard requirements to personal, metasubject and subject results of historical education;

- training for fulfillment of the second part of the Monitoring Test in History and Social Sciences. Typical mistakes of pupils (preparation for the Unified State Examination);

- possible approaches to implementation of differential training;

- efficiency of the use of project-based learning at History lessons and in extracurricular activity.

A museum lesson was conducted for them. Its topic was “Belozersk District from Ancient Times and till the 13th Century: Archeological Finds”. Six-formers of the Kirillov Secondary School (their teacher of history and social sciences was T.N. Kotyasheva) took an active part in it.

This event was held in the permanent exhibition of the museum “Antiquities of Belozersk District. History of the Region Based on the Materials of Archeological Excavations” located on the lowest floor of the Refectory.

Museum employees M.A. Vinogradova, L.V. Terebova and A.V. Tsvetkov helped to prepare the museum lesson. They read lectures for pupils and gave some pieces of advice concerning the subject of the lesson:

  • the Stone Age in the Belozersk district;

  • the ancient town of Beloozero. Culture and rites (based on the materials of the archeological digs);

  • archeology of the Belozersk district: smithcraft and jewelry;

  • archeology of the Belozersk district: foreign trade ties;

  • the funeral rite in the Belozersk district.

The lesson was conducted in the form of a tour. The pupils acted as guides; they showed a keen interest in the history of the Belozersk district preparing for the event. Not only their teacher T.N. Kotyasheva who interested them in the topic of the lesson, but also museum employees and parents helped the children.

The pupils scrupulously trained for the lesson, made a tour based on their good knowledge of the material and prepared some practical tasks that were successfully fulfilled. They drew conclusions at the end of the lesson.

Everybody who participated in the event highly appreciated the work of the schoolchildren and their teacher, the museum employees and the kids’ parents.

At the teachers’ request, L.I. Glysina, research officer of the Kirillo-Belozersky Museum-Reserve, made a tour of the permanent exhibition “Monk’s Cell in the 17th-18th Centuries” (open for visitors after reconstruction) for them.
